It is one of the few, if not the only, end-blown and two-chambered flute known. The presence of the flute in the Americas has been known for close to 1500 years. The Native American Courting flute is not necessarily a "holy" instrument, one may consider his or her flute with respect and reverence and it may also be dedicated to the memory of a person.
